The 2020 CrossFit Games are at risk of cancellation due to the surging cases of COVID-19 globally.

California Gov. Gavin Newsome has reinstated certain coronavirus restrictions within its 29 counties starting July 13, including Monterey County where the CrossFit Ranch is situated.

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) outlined the decision of the restrictions, including the shutdown of indoor dining, entertainment venues, barbershops and hair salons, and indoor operations at health clubs and gyms.

The Games were originally scheduled to take place from July 29 to August 2 in Madison, Winsonsin with 300 competitors around the world, but the lockdown prompted organizers to move it to Aromas in California with only 30 men and 30 women who qualified via sanctionals or the Open on August 17.

Organizers postponed it again to September 14, but with the current restrictions in place and if the current trend of COVID-19 confirmed cases continue, it is not likely for CrossFit Games to push through with its start date week.

Fitness centers and gyms, like the CrossFit Ranch, are still allowed as long as they can operate outdoors, Morning Chalk Up reported.
